Is STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Fitness a “boot camp”?

STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training should not be confused with a boot camp. We use specialised programming, with an emphasis on proper technique and building your confidence, all aimed at making you fitter, faster and stronger.

“Boot camp” workouts typically follow a circuit training format, with cardio as their main focus and are limited in the equipment used. Think repetitive exercises, endurance-type training and bodyweight movements. We agree boot camps are an efficient way to start burning calories, but those initial results and gains quickly plateau. The STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training functional fitness format ensures you avoid the plateau you may reach at boot camp by incorporating both strengthening and metabolic conditioning through hanging, pulling, pushing movements on a range of equipment in well-structured and regimented sessions that you won’t find in a “boot camp” scenario.

Can I join a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training course immediately?

We have specific intake dates and only allow participants to join at that time. We do this to ensure the safety and training satisfaction of the group and allows us to better plan and prepare the program cycle according to group strengths and capabilities.

What is the minimum attendance required for a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training course?

The STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training program is designed to build mental and physical resilience.  All STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training courses require a minimum commitment to attend 3 sessions a week, for 2 weeks.

Can I attend a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training course casually?

We do not allow casual attendance in our STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training courses.

The STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training program is designed to ensure optimal training load and results while fostering teamwork, discipline and accountability.

Can I choose which STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Fitness group or location I want to attend?

Due to group sizes, coach supervision and planning purposes, once you’ve signed into a specific course your training location and time can not be changed unless by prior arrangement with V&B Athletic management.

I’ve never exercised before, should I join a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training course?

Always seek the advice of your GP or Allied Health Professional (AHP) before embarking on any exercise program.

STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training is suited to participants of all abilities, from beginner to advanced. We won’t lie, our training is challenging but we will always ensure your exercises are suited to your current level of fitness. No matter where you start, you will see improvements in the first few weeks and will continue to do so as we continue to challenge your capacity to adapt and overcome challenges!

What should I wear to a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training session?

All new participants are issued a basic training shirt as part of their first intake payment.

Your basic training shirt is to be worn, washed and clean, at every session. If you forget your basic training shirt additional shirts can be purchased for $20 prior to your session.

In addition to your basic training shirt, wear comfortable training attire such as running shorts, workout shorts, leggings or light tracksuit pants and running shoes (no basketball boots, skater shoes, or similar). We recommend dressing to the conditions and wearing layers that you can remove.

Do I have to wear the V&B Athletic basic training tee?

The basic training tee is compulsory because it forms part of the regimented philosophy that we promote at V&B Athletic. Wearing the same shirt levels the ‘playing field’ and fosters a sense of belonging to the team.

What shouldn’t I wear to a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training session?

For your safety and that of your fellow participants, we do not allow jewellery or dress watches to be worn during a session.

We understand that, like us, youre keen to track your fitness progress over time plus see just how hard youve worked during a session.

For this reason, fitness watches (e.g. Suunto, Garmin, Polar, etc) and fitness trackers (e.g. Fitbit, WHOOP, etc.) are permitted to be worn during a session. However, we ask that you follow these conditions:

  • Your watch/device remains your responsibility at all times. V&B Athletic can not be held responsible for any damage caused.
  • Your watch/device should be covered at all times with a sweatband, buff or similar to avoid the risk of injury to you or your teammates and to avoid the temptation to check it during your workout.

What should I bring to a STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training session?

  • A positive can-do attitude with a readiness to work hard and push past your objectives to achieve your goals.
  • A water bottle with water in it.
  • A spare t-shirt or something dry to put on after your session.
  • During the colder months, something warm and dry to wear before and after the session.
  • A towel. Leave this in your car so that you have it for every session. In the event you get wet (see What happens if it’s raining?) you’ll need this to dry off.

What happens if it’s raining?

STRONGCorps Outdoor Group Personal Training sessions are held rain, hail, wind or shine!

What if I’m unable to attend a session?

You must notify us by text message at least 2 hours in advance if you are unable to attend training.

A lot of planning goes into our sessions and failure to attend without notifying us affects not only your teammates but our ability to provide a quality service.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may prevent you from attending a session, however, due to the popularity of our courses, if you miss two consecutive sessions your place in the course may be forfeited and made available to the next person on the waitlist. No refund will be given.

If we’re given sufficient prior notice that you will miss a session due to work or family commitments, we do (in good faith) offer make-up classes where possible.

What if I am injured?

Always inform your Coach prior to a session if you have an injury or issue that you feel may prevent you from completing certain exercises.

For most injuries, we will offer variations of exercises to ensure you still get a great workout without causing further injury.

We don’t allow participants to self-prescribe alternative exercises, that’s the job of your Coaches and what they are qualified to provide you.

What should I do if I feel unwell during a session?

If you experience any of these symptoms during a session, please stop exercising and notify us immediately:

  • Acute shortness of breath
  • Sharp muscle or joint pain
  • Dizziness or feeling faint
  • Cramping
  • Nausea

What happens if the Air Quality Index rating is poor?

Prior to every session, we consult the local Air Quality Index for advice and guidance on understanding the current level of air quality.

Sessions are modified or relocated if required. In the case of extreme Air Quality Index ratings, your session will be cancelled and an alternative session time provided to you.

In the event that a session is modified, relocated or cancelled under Air Quality Index advice, all participants are notified by text message.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

  • If you cancel 7 days or earlier than your course commencement date, your booking fee will be refunded to you minus credit card charges.
  • If you cancel within 7 days of your course commencement date, your booking fee will be refunded to you minus an administration fee and credit card charges. If another participant is able to fill your place, then your booking fee will be refunded to you minus credit card charges.
  • If you cancel within 24 hours or less of your course commencement date, you will receive course credit to attend any future STRONGCorps course once within a 3 (three) month period.

Cancellation once your course has commenced – no refund or credit will be issued.
