Training Code Of Conduct

One of the reasons we get such great results is because things are kept regimented.

All V&B Athletic training programs are based on mutual respect between Coach and Athlete.

Which is why all V&B Athletes follow a simple Training Code of Conduct to ensure they get the most out of every session in a safe and supportive environment.

Safety

Your safety is always our first priority and consideration.

You must comply with the safety regulations and instructions of V&B Athletic and their coaches at all times.

If at any time a coach considers that you are jeopardising the safety of yourself and/or others and/or disrupting the session, you may be asked to leave and you will not be entitled to either a refund or credit for future sessions or courses, you may also be prevented from attending future sessions with V&B Athletic.

Clothing and Footware

You should be wearing comfortable running shoes – no basketball boots, skater shoes, or similar.

STRONGCorps participants are required to wear their basic training shirt, washed and clean, at every session together with running shorts, workout shorts, leggings or light tracksuit pants.

MOVECorps and RUNCorps athletes should wear an appropriate training top and running shorts, workout shorts, leggings or light tracksuit pants.

Inappropriate clothing or footwear may result in non-participation.

STRONGCorps basic training shirts and RUNCorps technical running tops are available – please ask your Lead Coach about purchasing one.

STRONGCorps participants

Your V&B Athletic basic training shirt must be worn at every session.

Your basic training shirt is to be worn, washed and clean, at every session.

The basic training shirt is compulsory because it forms part of the regimented philosophy that we promote at V&B Athletic. Wearing the same shirt levels the ‘playing field’ and fosters a greater sense of belonging to the team.

If you forget your basic training shirt additional shirts can be purchased for $20 prior to your session.

Once you’ve completed the warm-up, any jumpers come off, your outer most layer must be your V&B Athletic basic training shirt.

You may not be permitted to train without your V&B Athletic basic training shirt.

Wearing a Fitness Tracker or Heart-Rate monitor during your STRONGCorps training session.

We understand that, like us, youre keen to track your fitness progress over time plus see just how hard youve worked during a session.

Fitness watches (e.g. Suunto, Garmin, Polar, etc) and fitness trackers (e.g. Fitbit, WHOOP, etc.) are permitted during your sessions but we ask that you follow these conditions:

  1. Your watch/device remains your responsibility at all times. V&B Athletic can not be held responsible for any damage caused.
  2. Your watch/device should be covered at all times with a sweatband, buff or similar to avoid the risk of injury to you or your teammates and to avoid the temptation to check it during your workout.

The STRONGCorps program is designed to build mental and physical resilience. We do this through ensuring your focus is on the task at hand and not on how much time you have remaining.

If you need to leave early, please let your coach know and they will advise you when it is time to leave.

We do not permit the following to be worn during STRONGCorps training sessions:

  • Jewellery
  • Dress Watches

This is for your safety and that of your fellow participants.

Athlete Code

We train rain, hail or shine.

We don’t accept excuses as reasons for not training, neither should you!

Our training philosophy is aimed at helping you to build the resilience and mental fortitude that puts you ahead of other athletes when the conditions may be less than ideal. Being committed to training at times when others are not, whether it’s environmental, psychological or physical, and learning to push yourself in a way that is safe, effective and controlled, is one way we help you to achieve those goals.

We’re not AWOL (Absent Without Leave).

Your Coach must be notified at least 2 hours in advance if you are unable to attend training.

A lot of planning goes into every session that we design so we need to know if you are attending to ensure we’re able to make any changes necessary to suit the numbers.

We’re not late.

You must arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your session start time.

This time is according to your Lead Coach’s watch, so if you need to synchronise your watch to “Coach time”, please let us know.

The session will start without you, which may result in non-participation at your own expense.

We put team before excuses.

Instead of using the words “I can’t”… replace it with “I can” and “I will”.

It’s easy to find excuses not to train when conditions aren’t pleasant or we’re under the pump because of work and family but we prioritise showing up to training because we know that there is strength in numbers. If you are what you eat holds true for your body, your mind is what you feed it.

By doing so, we know we could be the reason that someone else sticks with their training and becomes stronger, faster and more capable!

We’re always courteous and respectful.

We always treat our teammates, our Coaches, and most importantly the General Public with courtesy and respect.

The general public have absolute right of way.

We always ensure the general public is given plenty of personal space and we pass without causing any disruption.

We are especially aware of dogs on and off leashes, and always keep to the left-hand side on pathways and remain in single-file unless told otherwise by your Coaches.

We always address our trainers as “Coach”.

We do this to support a good working relationship between Coach and Athlete that is based on respect and discipline.

We always use the term “Yes Coach!” when answering in the affirmative.

Never “yep” or “yeah” nor “mate” and certainly not “dude”!

This helps to develop a mindset based on discipline but also lets your Coaches know you have heard and understood what they have told you.

We don’t speak when a Coach is speaking.

This is a safety requirement to ensure you hear and understand all instructions. It’s also a courtesy to your Coaches and your teammates.

We always push past our objective.

We don’t stop until we hear “REST” or “STEADY”

Particularly never during a countdown – …5 …4 …3 …2 …1!

There is nothing wrong with doing an extra rep after your Coach calls “REST” or “STEADY”.

We always focus on getting one last rep done and always push past the finish line.

We wait to be told it’s OK to have a drink.

We do this to develop your mental resilience and discipline.

Your coaches recognise the amount of water you lose through perspiration has to be replenished at some point. Your Coaches will let you know when it’s appropriate to take a drink.

When training, time is of the essence! Breaking from workout to take a sip on your water bottle is disruptive to the class and also a stall tactic. If you’re properly hydrated and the temperature in your workout environment is suitable, breaking for water is unnecessary.

This means arriving for your session already hydrated by drinking a minimum of 2 to 3 litres of water a day.

Doing so will prevent you from dehydrating when you are training. Even without exercise, you should be drinking at least one and a half to two litres a day to ensure your brain and body can function!

We never self-prescribe alternative exercises.

That’s the job of your Coaches and what they are qualified to provide you.

We never spit in the training area.

We take personal hygiene very seriously.

Which is why, if you need to spit, clear your nose or any other bodily function, please make sure you do so well away from the training ground.

We never leave the training area or session without permission.

You must never run out of the sight of your Coaches unless instructed to do so.

If we leave location, we start and return as one group. You will never be left behind and “walking back” is not an option.

If you need to go to the toilet during a session, please ask one of your Coaches first.

If you need to leave early, for any reason, please inform your Lead Coach prior to your session commencing and they will let you know when it is time to go.

Your feedback is vital in helping us to provide an excellent service.
